St. Kizito Foundation

Jukes Foundation for Kids is an OFFICIAL partner of the St. Kizito Foundation. Through the St. Kizito Foundation JFK sponsors tuition and sometimes room and board for students in Uganda, Africa.

What is the St. Kizito Foundation?

The St. Kizito Foundation provides aid to make it possible for Ugandan children and young adults to attend primary and secondary schools as well as Vocational schools and University. Nearly one hundred percent of the money donated to the Foundation is used to help the children.

What is the primary purpose of the St. Kizito Foundation?

The primary function of St. Kizito is to provide hope for the future through education and counseling for Ugandan children suffering from the effects of  the trauma of war and disease.

How many children receive aid from the St. Kizito Foundation?

Currently more than 400 children and youth receive aid from the St. Kizito Scholarship Fund

Who are the children that receive aid?

The St. Kizito scholars are primarily orphans, either of the guerilla war that has raged in Uganda for many years or of HIV/AIDS. Of the more than 500 children assisted in 2007, approzimately 40% were former Child Soldiers.

How is aid provided to the scholars?

St. Kizito has a community center located in the northern Ugandan city of Gulu. Students receiving aid from the foundation are enrolled in approximately 60 different schools throughout Uganda. Fees are paid directly to the schools for the children who are chosen as scholars.

How are the scholarship recipients chosen?

In Uganda, there is an official selection committee who evaluates applicants and their situations according to the selection criteria. Selection criteria include, but are not limited to:

  • Good academic performance/likihood of success in school
  • Good conduct/discipline
  • Financial need
  • Selection interview

Conditions for scholars accepting and continuing scholarship"

  • Good academic effort and performance
  • Good behavior in school and at home
  • No other organization supporting may be supporting the student
  • Attendance at student get-togethers for St. Kizito Scholars
  • Law abiding behavior

 

JFK started its first scholarships in February of 2010 by sponsoring 5 students.
