Uganda Update: JFK Preps Kids for High School
The Ugandan education system consists of primary school and secondary school (high school). Only 57% of children complete primary school, with a mere 12% of primary school graduates enrolling in high school.
There are many obstacles to recieving a high school education in Uganda. Until very recently, there were no government-funded secondary schools in the country. Many children stop pursuing their education in order to work and support their families – long before high school is even a thought.
Those who do wish to attend high school must first pass a standardized test. Students who don’t score high enough on these tests will be denied the opportunity for an education beyond primary school.
Through its partnership with Building Tomorrow JFK was able to supply students with prep materials for this standardized test. These test prep books, along with special instruction from their teachers, will equip children to succeed on these tests and be able to attend secondary school—the next step in building hope for these kids’ futures.
